Reinforcing its commitment to inclusive, technology-driven education, the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad is progressing with its Capacity Building and Training Program on Basic and Advanced IT & Computer Skills for tribal students in Jharkhand, with a key current component being the conduct of an End-Semester Examination alongside intensive hands-on practical training from April 8 to April 10, 2026.
The assessment and training phase is engaging students of Classes X, XI, and XII from Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs)—a flagship initiative of the Government of India that provides quality residential education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in remote and tribal-dominated areas—specifically EMRS Kathijoria, Tasaria, Basia, Torsinduri, Salgadih, and Kujra, marking a significant milestone in the program’s structured learning cycle.
Implemented by the Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering under the Centre for Excellence and supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, the initiative is designed to build both foundational and advanced digital competencies while enhancing students’ readiness for higher education and future careers.
The program is being strategically designed, supervised, and guided by Rashmi Singh and Niladri Das, whose leadership ensures academic rigor, practical relevance, and outcome-oriented delivery. A key strength of the initiative lies in its carefully curated modules. The Basic module includes fundamentals of computer applications, Tally for accounting skills, and Python programming to develop logical thinking and coding proficiency.
The Advanced module focuses on MS Access for database management, MS Project for planning and execution, and advanced Tally for industry-level accounting capabilities.
The training and evaluation team comprising Sunny Kumar, Firdaus Ansari, Sumana Banerjee, Amrita Puri, and Nilesh Kumar is conducting theory and practical examinations, delivering structured sessions, assessing competencies, and engaging with students and school authorities for continuous feedback and improvement.
Aligned with the vision of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the initiative reflects IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s sustained efforts toward digital inclusion, bridging the digital divide, and empowering tribal youth with future-ready IT skills to actively participate in the digital economy.
