The Department of Mining Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad successfully organised the inauguration and skill certificate distribution ceremony of the Skill Development Program on Assistant Mine Surveyor Course under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0) in association with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

The programme, aimed at enhancing the employability of youth, witnessed enthusiastic participation, with a total of 110 candidates inducted across four batches during the inaugural session held at conference hall of i2h building of the institute today. The initiative reflects IIT (ISM)’s continued commitment to bridging the gap between academic learning and industry-ready skills in the mining sector.

On the occasion, certificates were awarded to 40 Training of Trainers (ToTs), marking the successful completion of their training. Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, graced the event as the Chief Guest and distributed certificates to the participants. In his address, he highlighted the importance of skill-oriented training in empowering youth and strengthening the mining workforce of the country.

Among others present during the ceremony were Prof. Alok Kumar Das, Dean (IIE), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad; Prof. B.S. Choudhary, Head of the Department of Mining Engineering and Chairman, Skill Development; and Dr. Sunil Kumar, Coordinator, Skill Development. They emphasized the institute’s proactive role in implementing national skill development initiatives and fostering industry-relevant competencies.

The programme, being conducted from March 10 to June 10, 2026, is designed to equip participants with practical and technical expertise in mine surveying, thereby enhancing their career prospects in the mining and allied sectors.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s dedication to contributing meaningfully to the nation’s skill development mission.
